Alcohol Info: Alcohol Prohibition?

Alcohol Prohibition?hey if u kno n/ething bout alcohol prohibition, how did the events and atmosphere during that time affect it? (political, cultural aspects, economic, and social)

Answer by Mike D
it actually caused nationwide violence and illegal smuggling of alcohol into the united states. speakeasies were where common people went to get their illegal drink. they were called speakeasies because you had to speak easy so u wouldnt get busted. The prohibition actually started the mafia because they took profits from the smuggled alcohol similar to the drug trade in america today

i do believe that the cultural and social aspects was because many woman felt that drinking was the root of all evil in their husbands. they felt that because men were always drunk they could not work effectively therefore less income for the family. also many women during this time period were beaten and historians cite drunken men as the main cause.

Bad English, I'll decline this time. Except for this; women were instrumental in getting the amendment passed. This period led to several years of illegal activity, crime, and blood shed.

The issue was driven by religious hatred for drinking. The atmosphere at the time prompted more people to seek out alcohol even though it was deemed illegal. The country was experiencing a depression and people sought refuge in drink. This provided an outlet for organized crime and built up wealthy gangsters. Making it illegal created a black market, and thus alcohol trafficking was worth a lot of money. That led to enormous gang violence, police and court corruption. Many people got sickness due to improperly made products, and were killed in gangland warfare.
Innocent people, doing nothing more than having a drink would be arrested. Making your own would land you in prison.
