How can one undo the effects of alcohol on their liver? If someone drinks alot, or even occasionally, and if they either quit or stop for a long time, does their liver recover from the alcohol and if so how long would one have to stop drinking?

I'm afraid once the damage is done, it may be too late, the liver does not regenerate, as far as I know. Had a friend that drank everyday and took pain medication, developed cirossis...even after stopping both...died within 3 years.

You can't. What's done is done.

one cannot undo the effects of alcohol on their liver. you can stop drinking to help you from that point on however the damage done is done, that's why people are encouraged not to drink a lot and not to smoke, because the effects on your organs cannot be reversed.

OK, this is what I was told 8 years ago. I had my gallbladder out and I had been a pretty heavy drinker. While in there, the surgeon noticed I had a "fatty liver" from drinking. He told me to eat ice cream and hard candies every day. Why this advice, I don't know, I was too doped up on morphine to ask. But apparently it helps the liver in some way.
That was my wake-up call.

There is no way to "fix" damage done to your liver! If you're having a problem with alcohol, STOP DRINKING! The best way to do this, other than staying away from places and friends with alcohol, is AA! Good Luck to you!!!
