What is the effect of alcohol on antibiotics??I went to the doctor on Monday and was given an injection of Rocephin and then put on Augmentin 875mg twice a day for 10 days for a nasty sinus infection. We are going out to dinner with some friends tonight and I was wondering if it would be okay for me to have a few glasses of wine with dinner? I've heard alcohol kills the effect of antibiotics, but to what extent???

Depends on the amount you drink. But, yes. It does kill them. You might want to refrain for the next 10 days or so. It'll help you get well quicker.
Peace!

alcohol negates the effect of antibiotics and does so for several hours. If you just have to have a drink, skip the dose closest to dinner, and put it at the end of the series. Otherwise you just waste the dose.

You're going to drink anyway so why ask? The Antibiotics will do you no good while drinking, and in fact the Alcohol will further lower your immune system, which could make your infection worse.

No, but you will probably pass slap azz out...if you are able to finish a whole glass of wine. Be safe have a Perrier with a lemon slice.
