Alcohol brain damage as a teenager?I am a 19 year old guy (almost 20) and have just spent the last 1 and a half years overseas with a couple of friends working part-time overseas. It just occurred to me recently that I drank a lot of alcohol while I was over there. I worked it out to be about the equivalent of 5-6 beers every day for 1.5 years. I only drank about 4 days a week and but the average was 5-6 beers per day (i binge drank and was having about 12-15 standard drinks per session). I was wondering if the amount I drank could have permanent ramifications for my health such as brain damage (memory loss etc.). Has anyone drank this much themselves when they were 18-19 years old?? I don't feel any different to what i did before i drank but could i have permanently damaged my brain?? Thanks. PS. I know American kids are indoctrinated with anti-alcohol propaganda in school so id rather get responses that reflect reality not conservative BS.
kadel, you really are the village idiot. Alcoholism means you are DEPENDENT on alcohol. Im from Australia and if your logic is correct 80% of the population are alcoholics.

Your brain is still growing and developing up to age 25. Alcohol does affect that development, particularly the parts dealing with judgment. Sorry to tell you, but if you binge drink, you are an alcoholic.

If it was only for 1.5 years you'll be fine just try not to drink a lot anymore . :D

well from what ive heard (and idk how accurate this is so dont get beef with me if im wrong) unless you ARE dependent on alcohol it really doesnt affect the brain..especially in the developmental stage..because you kill brain cells when you drink (killing them faster than they can reproduce causes drunkenness) but even tho you kill them, they reproduce pretty fast so i really dont think you have much to worry about, bro..

I did the same amount, or more, drinking when I was your age. I had a lot of fun at night and some serious hangovers. I don't think you would have suffered any serious brain damage. Although, there is no real way to tell.
There are many questions you can ask yourself that will determine if you are an alcoholic. If alcohol has affected your quality of life, relationships, job performance, school work, living conditions, health, attitude or disposition you may want to evaluate alcohol's control over you. The most decisive question is "if you feel alcohol has a control over you" you may be an alcoholic. Counseling with a clergyman, doctor, guidance counselor, friend or recovering alcoholic has never hurt anyone, and has often helped.
From your question, to does not indicate that alcohol has a control over you or there is a
serious problem. Just asking the question indicates that you are aware of the potential dangers alcohol and alcoholism poses.
I don't recommend continuing the pattern. Your brain is not fully developed your liver, stomach, kidneys and even lungs can be adversely affected by alcohol.
