Alcohol Info: Where did Guinness get its reputation for being a high alcohol content beer?


Where did Guinness get its reputation for being a high alcohol content beer?It is 4.1% ABV which is less than most light beers.

I see people on here every day saying it is strong.. Heck the question right below mine somebody said "a stiff take no prisoners...". To me that would indicate high ABV.

I've never heard of it as a high alcohol content bear... just a good tasting bear, a favorite of the irish.

It doesn't have that reputation. It is strong, meaning dark and flavorful.

I think some people think that the strong flavor must mean a high alcohol content. Not sure where the thought pattern comes from.

4.1% ABV is not a high content, even for idiots who gorge themselves on that pansy fizzy yellow CRAP we take as beer in the US. A decent beer should start at 5%, and 4.1% is lightweight, especially for a stout. A good stout shouldn't even be looked at unless it starts at 6%.
