Can taking MDMA cause a reoccurance of pancreatitis? What is the toxicity of MDMA compared to a alcohol binge?

Can taking MDMA cause a reoccurance of pancreatitis? What is the toxicity of MDMA compared to a alcohol binge?I am a 24 y/o male who has had two episodes of acute pancreatitis due to alcohol abuse, the most recent episode being about none months ago. I have stopped drinking and started living a healthier life style. I have used ecstasy before the last time being over three years ago. My question: is it likley that ingesting ecstasy by it's self will cause a recurrance of acute pancreatitis? Also I have binged on alcohol since having pancreatitis and it has not caused an episode of pancreatitis. I am wondering what is toxicity of MDMA compared to alcohol? I am aware of most of the other health concerns with using ecstasy and I'm sure some of you will think I'm crazy for even thinking about it, but I need to know so I don't land myself in the hospital again. Thanks.

Not so far. The studies of MDMA so far have been found to cause damage to the heart. Other problems like memory loss, loss of concentration, and the brains ability to regulate sleep, pain, and emotions have also been found. There is nothing mentioned about the pancreas though. Has the GI doctor done any testing at all? I am glad that you're finally turning your life style around and this should help the symptoms from returning too. Please make sure to keep any meetings you need to whenever you feel the need. The doctor should start testing soon to find out if any cysts or tumors are present. Keep a daily diary of what you eat and when too. This is so if you eat anything and an attack starts you might find out a cause of these attacks. It also helps the doctor decide which test to preform next. Good luck and God Bless

Modest recreational use of MDMA is very unlikely to cause acute pancreatitis in a normal, healthy adult (which may or may not be you). Chronic use of methamphetamine, which isn't too dissimilar, is known to cause pancreatitis so it's certainly not out of the question.
