Teenage alcohol brain damage?I am a 19 year old guy (almost 20) and have just spent the last 1 and a half years overseas with a couple of friends working part-time overseas. It just occurred to me recently that I drank a lot of alcohol while I was over there. I worked it out to be about the equivalent of 5-6 beers every day for 1.5 years. I only drank about 4 days a week and but the average was 5-6 beers per day (i binge drank and was having about 12-15 standard drinks per session). I was wondering if the amount I drank could have permanent ramifications for my health such as brain damage (memory loss etc.). Has anyone drank this much themselves when they were 18-19 years old?? I don't feel any different to what i did before i drank but could i have permanently damaged my brain?? Thanks. PS. I know American kids are indoctrinated with anti-alcohol propaganda in school so id rather get responses that reflect reality not conservative BS.

I think I have. My parents always warned me not to drink because alcoholism ran in my family, but it happened to me anyway. hell, I'm even drinking right now. I have always found it odd that I couldn't remember details of childhood, or even stuff that happened to me just 2 years ago. I don't know if it's just me, or if I have really done that much damage to my body.

It could have damaged you a bit, yet you can still recover (not completely). and that is true for anyone, but being so young it hits you harder. Actually I was drinking a liter of whiskey or so per day for about a year at one point as a 19-20 year old. I still function well, but who can really look into your head and who knows??? If you can learn from it, don't worry about your brain cells. just look forward on your life.
