Answer by puff puff
They say if you have more than 15 drinks a week you could possibly be an alcoholic. Also drinking alone is another sign as well as not being able to stop drinking once you start. Hope this helps!

LOL thats how I started too Just the weekends! Your a social drinker not an alcoholic yet.

You'll know your an alcoholic when you start craving it everyday or you find yourself drinking and getting drunk everyday. Drinking by yourself is a good indication too.

Alcoholics usually are drunk everyday go to work drunk or if you need to drink to function though out the day.

How to Know If You're an Alcoholic

Some people think that the amount you drink determines if you are or are not an alcoholic but that's not the case.

Rather, it is what happens to you when you drink. Even binge drinkers can be considered an alcoholic if they suffer dire consequences when they drink.

Others think that if they haven't lost everything they're not an alcoholic. Not true. Alcoholism is a progressive illness, meaning that just because you haven't lost everything
yet doesn't mean you won't eventually.

Then there is the functional alcoholic. This is the person who holds the job and is able to function in the world despite being alcoholic. This is perhaps one of the most dangerous types of alcoholic because they can go along for years thinking that they're OK. This is the case with my step dad. He never lost a job and had a succesfull business for many years before selling it. He served in the Korean war and has always shown up for work except for rare occasions when he was seriously ill and when he did show up for work he did a good job.

He was well-liked at all his jobs. He had plenty of material things, had friends, never went to jail, never got a DUI.

A few years back he used to say to me that he didn't have to drink in the morning so he wasn't an alcoholic.

Well, now he does imbibe in the AM. Like I said, this is a progressive illness.

Here's another sign you could be an alcoholic: If you have that selective memory that causes you only to remember the good times and not the bad. Or you rationalize the bad times.

Also if you only got DUI warnings but not actual DUIs you might think you're not an alcoholic.

Not so. You just got lucky.

I speak from experience. I got three DUI warnings in the 1980s that would be full-blown DUIs today. Back then in Wisconisn where I live and went to school the DUI laws were much more lenient than today.

So, here in a nutshell are some signs that you may have a drinking problem:Hangovers, losing jobs, cars, material things, friends, relationships, pets, sabotaging things in your life, hiding bottles, lying about your drinking, justifying your excesses, putting yourself in dangerous situations, having blackouts, being sexually promiscuous, pretending to be someone you're not, failing in school, getting defensive when confronted with your drinking, trying experimental drugs, abusing prescription drugs, drinking till you get sick, driving while drunk, driving recklessly, switching to different brands of alcohol to try to control your drinking, trying to control your drinking period in various ways, neglecting your pets, friends, commitments, obligations, change in personality, lashing out at others, being late for work, drinking on the job, sneaking drinking, giving up your license so you don't have to worry about DUIs, legal problems, bouncing checks, swearing drinking off, not wanting to be around people that don't drink, spending money irresponsibly, being compulsive, not showing up for appointments, jeopardizing your health, and getting tickets. These would all be caused because of your drinking, for example, if you missed an appointment because you were drunk or hung over.

This obviously is not an end-all, be-all list and you don't have to have all of them to be an alcoholic.

But if you recognize yourself in any of the above behaviors you might want to get some help.
