Where do the calories in alcohol come from?

Where do the calories in alcohol come from?I've been taught that calories come from 3 places - carbs, protein and fat. However, if you look at the nutritional label on a bottle of vodka - it contains calories, but 0 carbs, 0 protein and 0 fat. So what gives alcohol it's calories?

Answer by snowflake
Carbs, technically speaking. It's like sugar only worse.

These labels are made in relation to human digestion. Humans get calories from carbs, protein and fat.
But calorie is a unit of energy. Gasoline or wood can be converted to calories, but not by human digestive system.

Alcohol is quickly metabolized and converted into glucose by the liver.

Am sure you've heard of alcoholics becoming diabetics?

Answer by John H
Alcohol metabolizes in your system and creates sugar. Alcohol also slows down your metabolism and what you eat will take longer to digest.
