Can I drink alcohol while on penicillin?I researched through the topic on the internet, and found out there is no known interaction between alcohol and penicillin, therefore you CAN drink drink while on penicillin. However, on the leaflet I got with the penicillin tablets it says you should "avoid drinking alcohol while on penicillin". So how serious is it really? Can I have a few glasses of wine at least? Is there anything serious that could happen to me if I drink?
The issue becomes particularly important to me as the New Years Eve is getting closer :).

Avoid to me means No. Check with your doctor to be sure.

there aren't really any drug interaction problems. the bad thing is the alcohol will weaken the effect of the antibiotic. the problem with that is if you don't kill off the entire bacterial infection that the penicillin was prescribed to fight, then you just kill off the weaker bacteria. then in turn that bacteria will multiply and you will be left with a stronger more resilient form of the same infection.

I wouldn't recommend it. I can't say that I've never done it, but I usually regret it for a couple of days.
I find that my alcohol tolerance level is lower if I'm taking penicillin, the hangovers are worse and the effect of the penicillin is weaker.
I've put an interesting article about it as a source.
Hope it helps.
