Can soda cause fetal alcohol syndrome?I read that high fructose corn syrup is filtered through the liver the same way as ethanol.
Supposedly the only difference between the two, is ethanol is also processed by the brain, causing intoxication.
so since both high fructose corn syrup (which is what soda mostly is) and ethanol wreck havoc on you liver in the same way, than can it also cause fetal alcohol syndrome?

No, there is no chance of fetal alcohol syndrome being caused by drinking soda. It is only alcohol that causes FAS.
During the first trimester of pregnancy, alcohol interferes with the migration and organization of brain cells, which can create structural deformities or deficits within the brain. During the third trimester, damage can be caused to the hippocampus, which plays a role in memory, learning, emotion, and encoding visual and auditory information, all of which can create neurological and functional CNS impairments as well.
