What kind of alcohol goes in eggnog?

What kind of alcohol goes in eggnog?I love drinking eggnog without alcohol. But this year I'm having a party for Christmas, and want to make an alcoholic eggnog for some of my guests. However, I've never had alcoholic eggnog, nor been around it. So what type of alcohol typically goes in eggnog?

A light rum... not dark... Also don't over do it with the rum... start with 1/4 cup rum per 1/2 gallon eggnog... taste and add more accordingly... you want the rum to enhance the eggnog, not overwhelm it..
