Can you become a firefighter with a history of alcoholism?

Can you become a firefighter with a history of alcoholism? Not a problem now. Just history?

Answer by Tigger
Theoretically, yes. But you have to make sure you avoid booze for the rest of your life, and make sure your fellow fire fighters can trust you.

If that's what you want, talk with the fire marshal about the issue.

Good luck.

Sure you can. I'm an alcoholic and an EMT...sober 17 years. Go for it. However, if you ever had a DUI, then there might be a problem.
