Why and how was alcohol used in Renaissance, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th Century?I mean any alcohol. Any.

They used Alcohol to wash wounds and cold with ice to stop bleeding...they also used Alcohol for anethesisia...I was also told they used alcohol to make a form of turpentine to clean brushes and other equipment after painting! Hope it helps!
