is swelling and redness of the face due to an allergic reaction?

is swelling and redness of the face due to an allergic reaction?my boyfriends face swells up and turns red when he drinks, it does matter what he drinks or how much. is this dangerous? is it a sign of an allergic reaction to alcohol?

Answer by PJ
Yes. It certainly could be. My ex was allergic to Corona Beer and Coors beer. I had to take him to the hospital twice, til we figured out the problem.

Tell your bf to drink something else, or stop drinking entirely.

My ex nearly died from it - his airways swelled shut and he couldn't breath.

It could very well be an allergic reaction. However, if he has the skin condition, rosacea, alcohol can flare it up.

He is probably allergic to the hops in the beer. He should never drink because he could possibly go into anaphalactic shock (sorry didn't spell that right; its spelled somthing like that though)

Alcohol flush reaction is a condition in which the body cannot break down ingested alcohol completely, due to a missense polymorphism that encodes the enzyme, acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2) [1], normally responsible for breaking down acetaldehyde, a product of the metabolism of alcohol.[2] Flushing, or blushing, is associated with the erythema (reddening caused by dilation of capillaries) of the face, neck, shoulder, and in some cases, the entire body after consumption of alcohol
