Yes it is, in fact I think it something that exists even in primates too. Here is a webmd article

NOPE! not one bit.

Your personality is what you make of it, alcoholism cannot be hereditary, because someone who is never introduced to alchohol will never get it, no matter how much his parents or grandparents drunk.

Sure someone can have a personality that has addictive tendencies, but your personality is what you make of it.

Yes it does predispose people who have alcoholism in the family, but so to does living in the environment of one who is an alcoholic. If you combine genes and environment, you increase the chances greatly.

The only thing hereditary about alcoholism is the social conditioning that get passed on because people may simply know no better.

Addictive personality is a strong label. If you can get away from that, you'd probably find yourself feeling and acting a whole lot freer.
