Physiological explanation for necrosis as the result of valium overdose combined with alcohol?

Physiological explanation for necrosis as the result of valium overdose combined with alcohol? My father died approx two years ago as the result of intentional valium overdose, combined with alcohol. I am seeking physiological explanations for his death. Was it due to lowered blood pressure and heart failure? Would his lungs fill with fluid as the result of cardiac arrest?

Thank you.
