Alcohol Info: i'm an alcoholic, and i don't know how to tell people i can't drink. please please help!!!?

i'm an alcoholic, and i don't know how to tell people i can't drink. please please help!!!?please don't tell me to just tell them im an alcoholic- there are quite a few situations where that would be inappropriate. saying i can't for medical reasons has lead to awkward in-depth questioning (people just don't have boundaries...)
im only 22, and being this age, its nearly impossible to avoid situations where alcohol is present. i dont have a problem not drinking, and whether or not the excuse is awkward im not going to drink - i just really would like to make it a little easier.

reasons like 'im not much of a drinker' have lead to people trying to pressure me to have a drink (just one, everyone else is, blah blah), no bad intentions meant since they had no idea - so i'd really like to have a good reason, not medical or religious, that would stop these questions. it's really pretty hard just saying no as it is, so any suggestions at all would be so appreciated!!!

i can't in good nature say anything about being straight edge. i have nothing against drinking -i did far too much of it in my past - and would feel hypocritical if i said i dont agree with it or something like that.

thank you for your help

here are some ideas:

- 'i am the dd tonight, and if i know my friend's I'll have to be sober''
- 'i am going to go over to my bf's (or gf's or families) house tonight and if they spell liquor on me i'll get in trouble'
- 'i've gotten a DUI before and can't drink and drive again or i'll lose my license- i was lucky to get off the charges for the last one''

"No thank you I don't feel like drinking tonight. Could I have a ______ instead.

I too am an alcoholic, haven't had a drink in many, many years. Here's what I say;
I'm driving,,,it's always a good one.
Got to be at work early tomorrow, big meeting, need to be sharp.
Meeting someone later, she doesn't like it when I show up drunk.

There are a few others but those usually do the trick, always, of course, when offered say, "thank you but no, I...(excuse here)"

Or you can get a soda, glass of OJ or something and just let everyone assume you have a drink.

People need boundaries. It's OK for you to set them. "Thanks, I'm not going to have any alcohol. I'd love some sodawater."
What? You can't drink? Why not? blahblah
"I can't drink alcohol tonite. It's fine."
Blahblah
"I can't drink alcohol tonite. Please don't make me feel awkward."
I've been there. I am there. The best thing about getting older is that more and more of your peers don't drink alcohol, so fewer and fewer boors make a big deal out of it.

"I am alcoholic and I don't drink! I would like a coke, pepsi, whatever type of soft drink you have. Thanks!' If someone can't respect that, get a new friend.
